Adapting To Your Circumstance
A short walk from where we live exists a pond that, for the most part, looks like a barren wasteland nine months of the year. When it is in it’s dehydrated state no water can be found and the surface mud is cracked and hardened. If you were to walk on the mud floor during this time it would crunch beneath your feet and show absolutely no signs of life under or up on it’s crags.
The amazing thing about this pond is that when it collects water from the winter rains it flourishes with life. Just below that dried and desolate surface resides a massive family of frogs who keep alive in the clay depths for several seasons until the life waters of the winter rains come once again releasing them from their catacombs.
I have always been amazed with these beautiful creatures and marvel at their resilience to not just survive but thrive. Their ability to adapt to their environment, no matter how harsh and difficult, is something to be admired. When one cannot find a better condition it is important to learn the skills of adapting. I write this particular blog because I have been taught this lesson by the Prince in my world, my husband Steve, and no, I did not have to kiss a frog for him to come to life.
During these tough times our family has suffered the affects of this harsh economic environment and as we do all we can to survive our circumstance we are learning how to adapt. One of those skills we rely heavily upon is humor. Finding a “Lighter Side” to your dark condition can help the weight of the world not feel so heavy and pressured. Steve masters this skill even in the most stressful situations. It is a joy to be around a person that makes the darkness bright simply by finding humor where it is hard to imagine. This is why I have chosen the first video interview to be of my Prince in not so shining armor, but rather bike clothes, a garbage bag and a way of making this journey fun…. and at times hilarious.
