Standing on Mountains – You Must Believe it to Achieve It

Standing on Mountains – You Must Believe it to Achieve It

There is a single word that I feel should not exist.  I actually have taken a black permanent marker and have blotted this word from the pages of my dictionary.  By doing so I demonstrated to my kids the importance of making a stance and having conviction in taking control of your own destiny.  This single action against this single word states to myself, and the world, that simply, “I CAN!”

The word I refer to and have removed from my vocabulary, my dictionary, and my life is the word “CAN’T.”  How many battles have been lost, dreams vaporized and hope shattered because this word was too easily found?  I am sure we can all look back at a time in our lives that doubt clouded our vision of what could be.  Yet, how many of us have the courage to say, “It is my turn to succeed and you will not rob me of this victory?”

In life there are countless pitfalls that can pull us down if we let them.  It is easy to fear judgment of the world when we do not live up to certain roles whether they are related to career, relationships, education and so forth.  But sometimes the harshest judgment comes from within and this is usually the more difficult one to turn off and ignore.  In most cases our limitations begin and end with ourselves.  Examples from others are a great way to develop the desire for change and make a move in a positive direction.

I know a young lady who has the spirit of “I CAN” throughout her persona.  She is barely five feet tall yet her stature is that of a giant.  Here she stands on the top of a mountain with arms stretched out with exclamation to the world that, “I am me, I am free, and this is how I choose to be.”  Carrie’s strength comes from within.  She has had many injuries and setbacks in her life yet that has not stopped her from climbing those mountains and triumphantly looking out to the grand and beautiful world with an appreciation for being there.  If you ever are fortunate enough to meet this happy, positive, petite woman, it will not take you long to see that there really is a giant within, peeking out from behind that grin.  And Most likely you’ll hear her words of encouragement if you hit any rough spots along the way as she cheerfully reassures you, “Come on, I know you can.”

In Other’s Words:

“We’d never know how high we are, till we are called to rise;

And then, if we are true to plan, our statures touch the sky.”
