Having gone under the knife for seven hours last Thursday I knew my body and mind would not be in a place, quite yet, to give a meaningful message to those who choose to follow my site. So, as I did after my first surgery in March of 2009, I have chosen one of my poems to be that message. It was written almost twenty years ago and was inspired after I had visited an art museum. Being artistic in nature, some may understand my thoughts while others will judge the concepts and insights. Yet, to not allow yourself to tap into that world can hinder your full potential and limit your connection to others and the world they see. I believe that God gives us gifts to see deep into the beauty of this world no matter how ugly it may appear at times if we so wish to see.

In My Words:

What Do You See?

Within a dream, I did see

Four others very much like me,

Who opened their hearts, minds, and souls

For others willing to see and know.

The first a writer of journals and scripts,

Opened his thoughts for the world to grip

He showed me his work then whispered low,

“See through my mind that ye may know.”

The next was a sculptor with hands of clay

Who molded the earth with grace to portray

A vision of greatness for all to bestow

Saying, “See through my hands that ye may grow.”

And then came a poet, a kind hearted man.

His soul so revealed through a quivering hand.

Did nothing to hide his thoughts very real

Cried, “ See through my heart that ye may feel.”

The last was a man creating photographs of life

And of the many things around him of both joy and strife.

His albums, so full, with no emotions concealed

Said, “See through my eyes all life revealed.”

Along with these men many more chose to stand

And unveil how life to them appears at hand.

In beauty or sorrow whatever they see

Of thought, heart and mind that shall it be.

So, “See through my mind that ye may know,

See through my hands that ye will grow,

See through my heart that ye may feel,

See through my eyes all I reveal.”
